MTI Controls and Intercom Integration

MTI is pleased to announce the inclusion of yet another industry standard in our ProVision Detention Control System. The ProVision Detention Control System (starting with Version VI), has the built-in capability of interfacing with intercom systems that implement the Session Initialization Protocol (SIP), along with Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP). These protocols are international standards for telecommunications, used by modern cellular networks, office phone systems, and video conferencing technologies. The implementation of these protocols in the MTI system offers some important use cases for a detention control system.

#1 - Facility Entrance Surveillance and Response

The Grandstream GXV3380 running MTI ProVision VI with SIP Intercom and Video Integration.

Many SIP-enabled intercom stations, Like the Axis I8016-LVE or the Avigilon H4, have both a SIP-based intercom speaker/mic and an ONVIF-S compliant video camera. These devices can be installed at the front entrance of a facility to respond to visitors while maintaining a secured entrance. The visitor can press the call-in button on the intercom station, and the operator at the front desk or some other location, using MTI ProVision VI on a handset, can answer and converse with the visitor while viewing the person from the integrated camera.

#2 - Public-Facing Buildings

Public-facing buildings, such as law enforcement centers, courthouses, mental health facilities, and schools, will have a need for a mixture of security and service. In these environments, judges and officers may have an interest in integrating intercoms with video and secured doors that can be controlled from a single interface. Using SIP-enabled intercom stations with OnVIF-S compliant video cameras and MTI’s control system, the user can answer intercoms, provide access to rooms, and even turn on lights and utilities through the MTI ProVision VI application, running on a handset, tablet, or desktop.

#3 - Mixed-Use Systems

This integration through MTI ProVision VI means that you can mix and match the types of technologies used for intercom. MTI still provides our own Digicom intercom system as part of our large detention control systems because, at scale, this system is far more affordable than the SIP-enabled devices. Yet, there is still a place for using these devices in combination with the Digicom system. Therefore, we’ve developed this new feature to accommodate both. MTI ProVision VI can be programmed to operate with both platforms seamlessly from the same interface. Call-ins from a SIP device will show up in the call stack alongside the call-ins from our standard system (NOTE: there are slight nuances and manufacturer-specific behaviors that may lead to slight differences in operation).

The integration with SIP intercom systems is just another way that we show our commitment to implementing industry-accepted standards for integrated control systems. To find out more about the MTI system or request a demo, please contact us at sales@montgomerytechnology.com
